The relationship between humans and nature has become one of the most important issues of the 21st century. In the face of today's environmental challenges, various initiatives around the world seek to promote a deeper awareness of our link to the planet. In this context, a Ecopsychology and Ecopedagogy Day in the community space The Grovelocated in C/ Poeta Zerolo 28, in Santa Cruz de Tenerifea meeting dedicated to exploring the connection between ecology, education and human well-being.
The event brought together participants interested in strengthening their relationship with nature through experiences of reflection, learning and direct contact with the natural environment.
One of the main guests was Edward C. Winfield, international coordinator of the foundationwho together with Noemí Rodríguez Ventura led the talk-workshop entitled "The encounter between ecology and psychology".. This space addressed the profound relationship between human well-being and the health of the planet, arguing that the way we think, feel and act directly influences the balance of the Earth.
Ecopsychology: understanding the link between mind and nature
The ecopsychology studies the relationship between psychological well-being and the natural environment. This approach argues that many of today's emotional and social problems are related to the disconnection between humans and nature.
During the conference, the participants reflected on how modern culture has generated a separation between thought, emotion and action in relation to the environment. From this perspective, it is proposed to recover an integral vision in which the human being is recognised as part of an ecological system that includes the mineral, plant and animal kingdomunderstanding that the state of the planet also reflects the inner state of humanity.
Ecopedagogy: educating to care for life
The ecopedagogy complements this approach by proposing new forms of education aimed at respecting nature and building sustainable societies.
This educational approach promotes values such as:
- Environmental liability.
- Respect for biodiversity.
- Building sustainable lifestyles.
- The integration of ancestral knowledge and cultural traditions related to the care of the Earth.
Experiential workshops to strengthen the connection with nature
The day included various participatory activities aimed at experiencing the connection with the natural environment.
Among them was the workshop "Reconnecting with nature through breath and art".where participants explored conscious breathing practices, body movement and outdoor walks. These activities allowed the integration of body, mind and emotion, generating spaces of presence, self-knowledge and connection with life.
There were also creative experiences that invited people to observe nature with greater sensitivity, to engage in symbolic dialogue with plants and animals, and to recognise the interconnectedness of all living things.
Reconnecting with the Earth: a challenge for humanity
One of the central messages of the meeting was the importance of back to our home: nature. Reconnecting with the planet means not only protecting ecosystems, but also transforming the way we live and relate to life.
Ecopsychology and ecopedagogy propose precisely this path: rebuilding the link between man and naturepromoting a culture of respect, responsibility and care for the planet.
