Asoprovida: 25 years caring for life and the planet

In May 2001, a group of people committed to the future of the planet formalised in Venezuela what had long been brewing as a deep conviction: that protecting life - all life - is a responsibility that knows no borders, creeds or social conditions. Thus was born AsoprovidaAsociación Protectora a la Vida, a non-profit civil society organisation that today, as it turns 25 years of historyis an active network of volunteers and promoters present in more than 11 countries in Latin America and Europe.

This is the story of those who chose to make the love of nature a way of life.

Origin: Venezuela, 2001

Asoprovida was registered with the Ministry of Interior and Justice of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. From its founding document, the organisation defined itself as a international cultural and environmental institution whose raison d'être is to promote the care of life in all its expressions, through Integral Human Development.

What began on Venezuelan soil quickly grew to the south, north and east of the continent. Within a few years, Asoprovida had active chapters in Argentina, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Honduras, Peru, Paraguay, Uruguay, Brazil, Costa Rica and Spain, turning a local initiative into a truly international network of environmental awareness.

Mission, vision and values: Asoprovida's DNA

The compass that has guided the organisation's every action over the past 25 years is clear:

Mission: To form committed, responsible people, capable of bringing about personal transformation and becoming agents of change in their environmental and social environment.

Vision: To be a worthy example of a voluntary institution that promotes a Planetary Culture to sensitise humanity to the need to find harmony and integration with nature by changing behaviour and thinking.

Values: Respect and care for life and nature; ethical training in universal human values; sustainable integral human development; environmental awareness and ecological practices; volunteering and selfless service; inclusion, equity and non-discrimination; integral health and community well-being.

Regardless of race, creed, gender or social status, Asoprovida considers all living beings as members of one big family. This conviction has not changed in 25 years.

What Asoprovida does: programmes that transform communities

Throughout its history, Asoprovida has developed a range of programmes designed to reach schools, families, communities and local leaders. All of them have a common thread: education as a tool for real change.

Planetary Culture

It is the organisation's flagship workshop. Aimed primarily at 8 to 10 year olds in schools, its objective is to "contribute to the education system in underpinning the search for environmental awareness". in the new generations. The programme analyses the consequences of the separation between man and nature and proposes concrete ways of reconciliation.

Guardians of Life

A programme specially designed for children, aimed at forming ecological teams that awaken creativity and a love of nature. The little Guardians of Life learn that protecting their environment is also protecting themselves.

Food Security and Agroecology

Asoprovida promotes organic agriculture, school and home gardens, and food sovereignty against the use of genetically modified organisms (GMOs). This line of work directly connects environmental well-being with the health and autonomy of families.

Personal Growth

Environmental change begins with people. For this reason, Asoprovida also works on self-knowledge, interpersonal relationships and the construction of a culture based on the universal principles of love. A more conscious human being is, inevitably, a more responsible human being with his or her environment.

Drug dependence prevention

With a preventive education approach, this programme warns about the physical, psychological and social consequences of drug, alcohol and tobacco use, linking individual health with collective well-being.

Recycling and Composting

Because caring for the planet also begins in the kitchen and in the backyard of every home, Asoprovida provides training in the responsible management of organic and inorganic solid waste, promoting recycling and composting as daily practices for environmental protection.

The Teacher as Eco-Social Being

Newest in its catalogue, this workshop is aimed specifically at educators and trainers, recognising that when a teacher embraces environmental awareness, his or her impact is multiplied in every student he or she trains.

Comprehensive Training Centres (CFI)

As physical spaces in natural settings, IFCs offer residential programmes for holistic development where nature is both the classroom and the teacher.

25-year milestones: a history of presence and action

Asoprovida's trajectory is marked by moments that show its growth and increasing impact on the Latin American environmental agenda.

Renewal in 2025 and new initiatives in 2026

The complete redesign of the asoprovida.org website in November 2025 marked the beginning of a new cycle. Already in 2026, the organisation deployed the Ecopsychology and Ecopedagogy Day in Spain, the programme "Planetary Culture and Guardians of Life in the Classroom". in Uruguay, and courses at the Centro de Formación Integral (CFI) in Colombia, confirming that at 25 years old, Asoprovida has more energy than ever.

Volunteering that knows no borders

Asoprovida functions thanks to the selfless work of hundreds of volunteers throughout its international network. The team is made up of engineers, educators, agronomists, ecologists, doctors and sociologists who offer their time and knowledge in the service of life.

Promoters receive training in workshops "highly practical and easy to understand". and in turn replicate that training in schools, neighbourhood councils, businesses and communities. The chain of environmental knowledge grows every time someone decides to get involved.

Do you want to be part of this network? The door is open to anyone who shares a commitment to caring for life.
